“Of all the films in Chan’s back-catalogue that received North American theatrical distribution, Drunken Master II was cut the least, with only 35 seconds of footage being removed. The cut was made to the concluding scene of the Hong Kong print, and showed Wong blinded and mentally crippled as a result of drinking industrial alcohol during the film’s ultimate fight. Played for laughs, the scene was considered to be in bad taste by the American distributor” —Drunken Master II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fuck Girl Talk!

How is it that this artist/band has become the musical wet dream of every webnerd under the Goddamn sun?!?!

it’s the same reason that family guy is so popular. it’s a lot of references, thrown out in a semi-incoherent manner, that pulverize brain stems into a constant ‘ah, remember back then, when things were so much less shittier than they are now?’ state (even if things were not in fact better then).

With one important catch: no one else was publically doing it at the time, and GG got enough publicity to his take on it.

I’m old enough to remember Duckman doing riffs on the old Crosby/Hope “Road to…” half a decade before Family Guy (plus the Critic doing random pop-culture cut-away gags, included Orson Welles and frozen peas, and the Kool-Aid Man) during that same time period.  But then again, I’m old (and still laugh at Family Guy every now and then.)

Well, mashups were pretty popular in the old days (of 2000). But no one sped them up in as Blipverty ways as Gillis did.

What about Kid 606?

“As Egypt 80 found in America last year, the Afrobeat message is beating loud again. The music has a growing cult following in the US. One fan is the Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama, who intervened when visa difficulties looked like preventing them entering the country. “We had to play a free gig in Chicago in homage to Fela. And Senator Barack’s office intervened in order for us to get the US visas on time,” Seun says.” — Seun Kuti: ‘I’m crazy. My father was, too’ - Features, Music - The Independent
